ABOUT THE ROLE
EPFC is looking for a Lead Estimator to join our Project Services team. The Lead Estimator will be responsible for the management of estimates for new project opportunities from proposal through to award, including reading and understanding contract documents, specifications and drawings for projects being tendered. Pricing of work and material take-offs, pricing on materials, equipment and sub-trades, fabrication and construction costs. This person will also be responsible for preparing tender forms, finalizing and closing of tenders.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead the build-up of multidiscipline estimates that may include Engineering, Fabrication, Procurement, Construction and Commissioning and Start-Up depending on project requirements and scope.
- Review proposal specifications and drawings to determine scope of work and required contents of estimate, in addition to inclusions, exclusions and assumptions.
- Estimating of work and material, take-offs, pricing on materials, equipment and sub trades.
- Solicit pricing from subcontractors and suppliers.
- Develop cost loading for project schedule.
- Prepare and present project cost estimates to internal and external stakeholders, including working with clients through any clarifications.
- Identify opportunities including strategies to create competitive bids.
- Develop, maintain and improve procedures, databases, early phase cost models, templates and tools for cost estimating.
- Perform cost risk assessment and probabilistic simulations to establish project contingency and project reserve.
- Mentor, provide guidance and periodically manage junior and intermediate estimating staff, as required.
YOUR KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
- Ability to work independently and with minimal direction.

- Excellent problem solving and troubleshooting experience.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills coupled with the ability to work effectively with all clients, both internal and external.
- Strong team player with positive collaborative attitude.
YOUR QUALIFICATIONS
- University Degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or a Technical/Trades diploma.
- A minimum of 10 years of experience in an estimating role.
- Strong knowledge of MS Office. Expert level knowledge of MS Excel, including ability to write advanced formulas and use pivot tables to perform calculations.
- Advanced technical knowledge of cost estimating, CIQS and AACE guidelines and best practices, engineering design, construction practices and procurement for major projects.
- Advanced knowledge of estimating methodologies.
- Advanced knowledge of project schedules and resource/cost loading.
- Advanced knowledge of construction practices and constraints on large projects.
- Advanced knowledge of estimating disciplines such as CSA, Mechanical, Electrical and industry costing software a benefit.
